The ball starts out flat and goes into the hole. Golf is a game of anticipation. Golf is a game of nerve. And each golfer has different strengths, weaknesses, and requirements to learn from.
Golf is such a game that requires a lot of mental preparation. To play golf, you need to prepare yourself for anything that may happen on the course. If you aren’t prepared, and you have made certain preparations, the next thing you know, you are behind. If you are at the hole and get a good chip shot, all things are fine. If the wind takes away your chip shot, your putting stroke becomes your biggest issue.
As a golfer, you may not be aware of this, but even if you have lost your way, you can always find it again. When you are having a bad day on the course, or you’re driving down the fairway and you hit your ball straight down the middle, don’t give up hope. This is a great sign.
That being said, if you are having a bad day and your putting stroke is no longer up to par, then you should stop what you are doing and walk off the course. Don’t hit the driving range anymore. Just stand there. Take a deep breath, relax, and just take it easy. Your confidence is what you are going to need in order to get back on track.
You may also have the chance to try your golf swing on the putting green or a slope on the fairway. If the sound of your swing is not coming off in the direction you want it to go, you can try again.
If the first drive or that hard shot of the day was not the result of your putting stroke, then your approach may be what is giving you trouble. Use some same words that you used to relax when you were putting, and have them still in your mind when you are walking down the fairway.
For example, use the word fear. Something about fear can really help you hit a better shot. Try the word fear and then make it a point to always keep that in your mind, no matter what.
It’s okay to practice this tactic before you even tee up the ball. What is important is to practice doing something until it becomes automatic. I am not saying that you will not be scared when you actually step up to the tee, but you should not let fear stand in the way of what you want. Keep practicing and eventually, your body will loosen up, and you can hit your drives with ease.
Also, when you are hitting the ball, knows that your stance is going to change. This is because you are trying to improve your golf swing, and not playing golf. While playing golf is going to help improve your swing, the whole purpose of learning how to play golf is to develop a new way of swinging.
Sometimes a hit on the greens that is all the wrong way may cause more damage than you originally thought. A nice gain in power, but not always a good thing.
Learning how to play golf basics takes time. Some lessons take longer than others. But, in the end, you can feel better about yourself, and the people around you, because you are in better physical condition, and you are having fun on the course.
